Team Cure Cancer at the Nike Melbourne Marathon Festival – Fundraising impact

Funds raised from Cure Cancer’s Nike Melbourne Marathon Festival runners this year will go towards funding Dr Jennifer Currenti’s groundbreaking liver cancer research.

Dr Currenti, who is based at the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research and Curtin University in Perth, is developing a blood test to help doctors personalise treatment for liver cancer patients, improving their chances of survival.

Liver cancer is one of the deadliest cancers worldwide, and Dr Currenti’s work focuses on finding biomarkers that predict which patients will respond to immunotherapy. Their goal is to create a simple test that can guide better, more effective treatment options for those with advanced liver cancer.

“Developing a blood test that can guide personalised clinical decision-making will improve overall survival rates and ease the burden on people living with liver cancer and their families and friends. I hope our work will make a meaningful difference and bring us closer to a future where more people can survive and thrive beyond their diagnosis.”  – Dr Jennifer Currenti
