The Nike Melbourne Marathon Festival is delighted to announce that the 3km Walk will be a free event in 2021 thanks to the City of Melbourne.
For the first time in Melbourne Marathon history the Festival will be split over the December 11-12 weekend. To accommodate for the warmer weather, Saturday’s events including the SriLankan Airlines 10km Run, the 5km Run and 3km Walk are set to commence in the late afternoon. Whilst the Nike Marathon, Nike Wheelchair Marathon and Nike Half Marathon will all commence an hour earlier Sunday morning.
A 6pm start at Yarra Park Path will take the 3km evening walkers through iconic Melbourne landmarks. Over William Barrack Bridge, pass the Yarra River and through Birrarungmar before doing a lap of honour around the MCG’s hallowed turf.
Promoting physical and mental health, plus setting the little ones a realistic challenge with that added race day buzz, the 3km Walk is the perfect Summer outdoor activity for families with young kids. Every participant will be awarded a medal at the finish line in acknowledgment for their achievement.
Those interested in taking part better be quick though, with the event capped at 5,000 entries it’s sure to sell out. Join in on Moving Melbourne this December and register today!
