Lachy’s Running For A Cause

For Lachy, the upcoming Nike Half Marathon isn’t just another race; it’s about going the extra mile and running for a charity close to his heart – Vision Australia, an organization dedicated to supporting people who are blind or have low vision. Vision Australia is the leading national provider of personalised technology, services and information for anyone experiencing or supporting those with vision loss.

Lachy’s connection to Vision Australia is a lifelong one. “My dad is blind and has been all my life,” Lachy shares. “It’ll be great to support the charity on the very streets which he walks, lives, and works.” Running has become more than just a physical activity for Lachy. Over the past year, it has been a crucial tool for balancing both fitness and mental health. “I’m super excited to run for charity and give the run a poignant meaning,” he says, reflecting on the importance of the half marathon. With his family and friends cheering him on, this year’s race promises to be more meaningful than ever.

As Lachy prepares for the Nike Half Marathon, his primary goal remains clear: to finish the race. However, he’s also aiming for a personal best, hoping that a solid training block will set him up for success. “It’s tough in the winter,” he admits. “When the alarm goes off or it’s cold and wet, it’s certainly not great. However, pushing through will hopefully be all worth it on the day!”

Training alone has its challenges, but Lachy has found strength in the support of his wife, friends, and even his dog, who occasionally join him for sessions. “It’s an added bit of pressure to train when raising money for such a great cause,” Lachy acknowledges. “To complain about training seems mute when so many people can’t run, so I’m lucky I’m in the position to run and plan on making the most of it.”

As Lachy laces up his shoes and prepares to hit the streets of Melbourne, he does so with a renewed sense of purpose. This half marathon is more than just a race; it’s a tribute to his father, a celebration of resilience, and a chance to make a meaningful impact.
