Being granted a Preferred Start means starting your race immediately behind the Elite field. To be granted a preferred start you must have achieved the following qualifying times for your event since 1st January 2025. Applications for a preferred start will be closing on the 12th September 2026.
Incomplete applications will not be considered. All applications are checked to guarantee times submitted are valid.

How will I know if I’ve been successful or unsuccessful in applying for a Preferred Start?
- All applicants will be emailed a response according to the schedule below.

I ran a performance standard earlier in the qualifying period but ran slower in a recent race. Does this mean I will be refused a Preferred Start?
- No. Anyone who has run the standard for a Preferred Start in the qualifying period will get one irrespective of other performances
- Yes. Performances over other relevant distances will be taken into consideration
- You will only be contacted about your Preferred Start application after you have actually entered your event of choice
